The home decorations are elaborate, and often cleverly themed. Every member of the family gets involved. There are masterfully choreographed skits, music, and light shows. It’s something you should experience at least once in your life if you live in Tampa Bay but get there early – parking can definitely be a challenge. I suggest starting on 18th Ave NE (my old block) & 1st St NE and walking East. It always seems to be the epicenter, but you can’t go wrong anywhere in the neighborhood. We all deserve it.   Thursday Theater Repeat & Spotlight Events These Productions were mentioned last Thursday but are worthy of a repeat listing due to the storm and some early performance cancellations. They all shine in the #RegistrySpotlight and deserve a re-do.   Ring of Fire – The Music of Johnny Cash American Stage, DTSP Ring of Fire – the jukebox musical that’ll take you on a wild ride through the music of one of America’s most iconic singer-songwriters, Johnny Cash. Through a series of vignettes, you’ll witness the highs and lows of life in 20th century rural America — the struggles, the triumphs, the loves lost and found. Though he is never impersonated, Johnny Cash’s remarkable life story is told through his music, climaxing in a concert that will both move and exhilarate! You won’t be able to resist singing along. Runs through Sunday, October 20th Find tickets, performance times, and more information HERE.   The Second-To-Last Chance Ladie’s Club Early Bird Dinner Theatre, Clearwater It’s time for dinner and a show – in the same place! What could possibly go wrong? This rollicking and uproarious Jones Hope Wooten comedy will bring you endless joy and tears of laughter. Runs through Sunday, October 27th Find tickets, performance times, and more information HERE.   What the Constitution Means to Me by Heidi Schreck Stageworks Theatre, Tampa Courtesy of Stageworks Here’s a very compelling true story with some pretty great timing. If you love the Constitution, you’ll love this story seen through the eyes of the author from 15 to adulthood. Fifteen-year-old Heidi Schreck paid her college tuition by speaking in debate competitions across the country; now older, she tells the story of four generations of extraordinary women in her family whose lives were shaped by the Constitution. Don’t miss it. Long-running hit scenes include The Jailer’s Daughter, King Lear, The Tragedy of Richard III, Measure for Measure, The Winter’s Tale, Macbeth and a new hit The Fifteen Minute Hamlet by Tom Stoppard. Runs through Sunday, October 6th Find tickets, performance times, and more information HERE. **Mini Review** The Man from Stratford I had the pleasure of seeing this production last weekend at TheatreFor in Clearwater. This venue is new, and The Man from Stratford is only its second production. Dee O’Brien wrote the script, designed the set, and designed all the costumes, which were more elaborate and beautiful than almost any small venue local theater production I’ve ever seen. – This all while she was dealing with significant property loss at the hands of Helene. The show went on. The play offered a series of abbreviated portions of some of the Bard’s most famous, and a few not so famous, plays. This included a farcical finale featuring Hamlet by Tom Stoppard – absolutely hilarious.  I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it highly – especially for Shakespeare lovers. It is Theatre Tampa Bay recommended as well. Give them a try this weekend and tell them I sent you.   Friday   Odyssey Music Festival Fairgrounds, St. Pete This is a massive 2-day festival with over 2 dozen performing artists, arts exhibits, dance, vendors, and so much more. The Fairgrounds is the perfect, centrally located venue to accommodate such a big concert event. It’s sure to be a good time for all, so enjoy some great music and hag with neighbors and friends. Friday & Saturday, October 4th & 5th Find tickets, event schedules, and more information HERE.     St. Stefano’s Super Greek Festival 2024 St. Stefano’s Greek Orthodox Church, St. Pete As you may have guessed, I love great cultural events with an international flavor. And speaking of flavors, the food alone is usually worth the trip. The Super Greek Dest is a 3-day celebration of our Mediterranean cousins across the sea. Experience Greek culture indoors and out, rain or shine. Revel in this joyous, family friendly, authentic celebration of Greek Food, Culture, Dance and Traditions held every year. All are welcome with open arms, and there is truly something for everyone to enjoy and celebrate.
