Movement is Medicine: Tai Chi

These Tai-Chi based mindful classes are designed to help anyone improve their overall health and boost our immune systems. It is particularly beneficial for those with any type of chronic condition, stress, or balance issues. All the classes offer elements of enhanced breathing, posture, coordination, balance, flexibility, Tai Chi forms, & healing Qigong. The programs are easy to follow, can be performed standing or seated, and are geared towards beginners and all levels who want to learn about and practice calming health improvement techniques such as Tai Chi and Qigong. Registration for any of these classes is required as space is limited in both virtual and in-person venues. Please note that both virtual offerings are the same lesson. You are welcome to attend multiple courses, but please register for each course you wish to attend. To attend this program in person, you must register for a $22/month TGH Fitness Center membership. Chrysanthemum Workshop – ZEN Practice

Chinese Brush Painting is the foundation of all oriental brush arts. Painting in China is a way of life – and as such, it hails from the philosophies of Taoism and Confucianism. Nature and its grandeur is appreciated for its intangible spirituality. In this beginner’s workshop, you will start by calming your spirit, thinking, and meditating about how you will paint the essence of your subject. Preparing yourself to paint, you will use “The Four Treasures”- brush, ink stick, ink stone, and rice paper- that have defined this art form for thousands of years. You will find that Chinese Brush Painting is an enlightening practice in embracing change. You will gain an overview of the history, philosophy, and aesthetic concepts, understand the proper selection, care, preparation, and use of traditional materials, and perform the basic skills and techniques for brush strokes. Learn the basics of Chinese Brush Painting through hands-on instruction, complete compositions, handouts, and discussion. Mastery of the brush empowers artists of any medium. Students will compose a Chrysanthemum that they learned during this workshop.

Historic Civil Rights Trolley Tour

Join us on Saturday, September 27th for a historic 2-hour tour that explores the events and venues of the Civil Rights movement in St. Petersburg. From the South Mole Beach and Spa Pool to Lunch Counter sit-ins and an act of Civil disobedience at City Hall, the Museum of History and Star Trolley takes you on a trip through the Civil Rights history of the Sunshine City.
