I’ve told you before about the hidden treasure that is Beauty & the ‘Burg Live — literally hidden, because this monthly interview series with some of our area’s most interesting arts folk takes place underground, in the St. Pete basement boîte SubCentral at the Iberian Rooster. Tonight, velvet-voiced host Cindy Stovall shares the stage with another local treasure, one who’s sort of hidden but getting increasingly less so: the actor/playwright Jan Neuberger.
You may remember her as the best thing in American Stage’s Tartuffe a few years back, or perhaps you enjoyed her one-woman show at GASP! at the Tampa Museum of Art or saw the staged reading of her new play Way Beyond Water at Opera Central. But those are just a few of Jan’s achievements; her Broadway career has included roles in shows like the Angela Lansbury revival of Gypsy, Hello, Dolly! with Carol Channing, Wicked, Big and more — which means she’s got lots of good stories to tell and Cindy’s got lots of great pictures to show.
Jan describes tonight’s “enticements” this way: “…some ancient Daguerreotypes of my early show business days…a couple funny stories involving stars who are remembered fondly by us geriatric types…maybe even a little smut.” C’mon everybody, showbiz gossip with a touch of smut — how can you resist?
Wed. 10/16, 5:30-7 p.m., SubCentral at the Iberian Rooster, 475 Central Ave., St. Petersburg.
