Wyndham Clark wins the 2026 U.S. Open and is a two-time United States Open Champion.

Clark captured his first U.S. Open in 2023 at Los Angeles Country Club.

He became the first wire-to-wire winner of the U.S. Open since Martin Kaymer at Pinehurst No. 2 in 2014. Clark took a 6-shot lead into the final round that quickly dwindled. His lead was down to a single shot after just five holes and the stress followed him the rest of the way.

He won by 1 shot at -4 over Sam Burns -3 on a day when he had to battle one of the most challenging courses in the United States- Shinnecock Hills. On the tip of Long Island, the course is links style, but second shots are mostly played in the air as opposed to on the ground. There are no trees, little water, but there is wind, and for most of the week a lot of wind challenged the world’s best golfers, professionals and amateurs (five made the cut) to control their ball.

Low-amateur honors went to University of Oklahoma rising senior, Ryder Cowan, and Jackson Koivun, the former Auburn University star playing his final event as an amateur. The two finished at 5-over 285.

The USGA did a fantastic job with the setting up of the course. The fairways were generously wide and greens not crazy fast. However, the greens have so much slope from front-to-back, back-to-front, and side-to-side depending on the hole that the effective size of the landing area is greatly reduced, calling for accurate shots and imagination. This increases the  difficulty of the course but makes for great viewing.

The U.S. Open crowd cheered for Sam Burns, Tom Kim, Keith Mitchell, J.T. Poston, and of course Scotty Sheffler who tied for fourth. In fact, it seemed they were supporting anyone who had a chance but Wyndham Clark. In the end, he won the Championship and the crowd cheered- mostly.

The 2027 U.S. Open will be played at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

The Open Championship is the final Major of the year coming up July 7 – 12 at Royal Birkdale in Southport England, a classic, championship links course. It is widely considered one of the finest and most challenging links in the world, renowned for its towering sand dunes and undulating fairways.

The LPGA will play the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship June 25 – 28 at Haseltine National Golf Club in Chaska, MN this week. A win by Nelly Korda would likely put her in the World Golf Hall of Fame.

In local news, Tournament officials announced last week that a variety of ticket offerings are now on sale at www.TheAnnika.com for Tampa Bay’s LPGA Tour event, The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican, taking place Nov. 11-15 at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla.
