Scottie Scheffler put on a master class in consistency and perseverance in the final round of the FedEx Cup Championship at Eastlake Golf Club in Atlanta on Sunday. He is the 2026 FedEx Cup Champion and no doubt Player of the Year.
It was not his usual runaway victory, as Victor Hovland hung around most of the day, keeping things tight until the final holes.
Hovland did take second place with -13 and earned $5,000,000.
Scheffler finished -16 for the championship and earned $10,000,000, setting a new single-season Tour earnings mark of $30,937,525 in official money and pushing him past Tiger Woods on the PGA Tour’s all-time career money list with a total of $130,390,661. Woods had held the top spot for 26 years.
Scheffler is now just the third player to win multiple FedEx Cup titles, along with Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. He now has 22 career PGA Tour wins.
Scottie has a way to go to get to Sam Snead and Tiger Woods record of 82 PGA Tour wins but I will not bet against him if he stays healthy.
J.J. Spaun had to withdraw from the tournament with a shoulder injury but earned $355,000 for making the Top 30 in the FedEx Championship.
There are a lot of changes coming for the PGA Tour (two-week match-play format in 2028) with the goal of having the best golfers playing each other on a weekly basis.
Watching the Top 30 play in the FedEx Cup was a thrill. It created great theatre and drama. Young players like Cameron Young, Chris Gotterup, Ludvig Aber, Alex Bridgman, Ryan Gerard, and Alex Fitzpatrick illustrate there is immense emerging talent on the tour.
Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Victor Hovland, Justin Rose, and Adam Scott- all past FedEx Champions played well and gave themselves a chance for glory.
At the end of the PGA Tour season, Scottie Scheffler proved once again that it is his world, and we just live in it. It is great to be alive to witness such amazing golf in this era.
