There’s something about live theater under the stars that instantly elevates an evening—and last week in St. Pete, it felt especially magical.
In partnership with WEDU, we had the chance to experience Into the Woods…in the Park, presented by American Stage at Demens Landing—and it’s one of those productions that lingers with you long after the final bow.

Set against the waterfront, the familiar Grimm fairy tales unfold with a clever twist. Little Red is a bit more daring, Jack’s chasing more than just a beanstalk, and Cinderella’s Prince…well, he’s not exactly the fairytale ending you remember. Stephen Sondheim’s iconic score carries the story through moments that are whimsical, dark, and surprisingly relatable.
What makes this production stand out isn’t just the talent on stage—it’s the experience itself. Blankets spread across the lawn, the skyline fading into dusk, and a crowd that feels both relaxed and captivated. It’s equal parts cultural outing and quintessential St. Pete evening.

Running now through April 26, this is the kind of event that reminds you why local arts matter—and why supporting them feels so rewarding.
If you’re looking for something different to do this week—something a little more memorable than the usual dinner plans—this might just be your cue to head Into the Woods.
