NEWS: JA Tampa Bay Renames “JA BizTown” as “Muma BizTown,” Honoring Decades of Transformative Support from the Muma Family

If you live here, you know the Muma name—and more importantly, the generosity that comes with it. The Muma family has a way of quietly showing up for our community, supporting the kind of ideas that truly make a difference. One of those is JA BizTown at Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay, a hands-on experience where students get a glimpse into the real world—running businesses, managing money, and building confidence along the way. It’s the kind of place that leaves a lasting impression, made possible by a family that continues to invest in the future of Tampa Bay in the most meaningful way. A few interesting points about renaming JA BizTown to Muma BizTown: The Mumas’ multi-decade involvement, including a $5 million planned gift and $2–3 million in operational support, has enriched the BizTown experience for 300,000+ students across the Tampa Bay region. Aligning the Muma name with BizTown strengthens local community relevance and links the program to institutions known for leadership in education and innovation, including USF’s Muma College of Business and Tampa General’s Muma Children’s Hospital. The renaming underscores JA Tampa Bay’s broader growth strategy. The chapter is expanding to 28 3DE schoolsand establishing new experiential learning centers across the region, prompting a modernization of brand architecture and donor recognition that reflects both JA’s mission and today’s philanthropic landscape. Courage, Confidence…and Calling 911

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida Women of Distinction Luncheon, one of Tampa Bay’s longest-running celebrations of female leadership and community impact. Each year this event gathers hundreds of business and community leaders to recognize women who are making a difference right here in our region. This year’s honorees were an inspiring group: Renee Dabbs– Founder and CEO of Renee Dabbs LLC Cynthia Johnson– Director of Pinellas County Economic Development Denise Jordan– Owner and President of LifeSpring Home Care of Tampa Jessica Muroff– CEO of United Way Suncoast The program also recognized Evita Jackeline Garcia as the Woman of Promise, and celebrated Dr. Judy Genshaft with induction into the Women of Distinction Hall of Fame. The stories of these women were impressive, but the moment that truly captured the room came from a much younger Girl Scout. During the luncheon, we heard about a young scout who realized something was seriously wrong with her father. Instead of panicking, she calmly called 911, explained the situation to the dispatcher, and followed instructions until help arrived. Her quick thinking helped save her dad’s life. The room erupted in applause when her story was shared. It was such a powerful reminder of what Girl Scouts is really about—teaching girls courage, confidence, and character. I’ll confess something: I have always wished I had been a Girl Scout. I love the sense of adventure, the community, the badges, the leadership skills… and honestly, I would have taken the cookies very seriously too. Watching that young girl be recognized alongside such accomplished women felt like a perfect full circle. Today’s honorees are leaders in our community, but every one of them started somewhere—learning the same values that Girl Scouts are teaching girls today. If that brave young scout is any indication, the next generation of leaders is already well on its way. And I think we can all agree… the future looks pretty bright. 2026 Dreammaker Luncheon: Investing in Dreams

There are events that fill a room — and then there are events that truly move it. On April 1, 2026, the Children’s Dream Fund will host its annual Dreammaker Luncheon at Armature Works in Tampa, an afternoon dedicated to honoring generosity, celebrating resilience, and turning dreams into reality. This year’s luncheon recognizes Raymond James for their unwavering commitment to children and community. Presented by WestCMR, the event will bring together leaders, philanthropists, and families for a meaningful midday gathering from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. The program begins with a social hour, followed by lunch and one of the most powerful moments of the afternoon, hearing directly from a family whose life was forever changed by a dream fulfilled. The luncheon concludes with a paddle raise, offering guests the opportunity to directly fund future dreams for children facing life-threatening illnesses. A dream through the Children’s Dream Fund is not simply a wish granted, it is a pause in the middle of uncertainty. A spark of joy. A reminder that hope still exists. Whether it’s meeting a hero, traveling somewhere magical, or receiving a long-cherished gift, each dream becomes a lasting memory for both the child and their family. We believe in spotlighting the people and organizations shaping the heart of our community and this is one of those afternoons that truly embodies that spirit. Celebrating Heroes for Hope: Ibis Healthcare Transforms Lives

The Ibis Healthcare Foundation is building a future where everyone has access to dignified, whole-person care. Through awareness, advocacy, and strategic support of Ibis Healthcare’s innovative programs, they empower behavioral health, substance use treatment, and wellness services that truly transform lives. This year, the 2026 Heroes for Hope Gala brought this mission to life with a Vintage Superhero twist! It was a night of celebration honoring our incredible supporters, the vibrant Tampa Bay community, and the transformative impact we can create together. As of July 1, 2025, Gracepoint Wellness and Cove Behavioral Health merged to become Ibis Healthcare—a single, integrated nonprofit providing a comprehensive suite of behavioral health, wellness, and substance use services. Alongside this change, the Gracepoint Foundation is now Ibis Healthcare Foundation, opening new ways for supporters to invest in our community’s mental health. At the gala, we celebrated extraordinary leadership and compassion: Tracy Otto and Sheriff Chad Chronister received the 2026 Guy King Behavioral Health Champion Awards. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office was honored with the first-ever Partner of the Year Award for their outstanding responsiveness to behavioral health needs. Together, we continue to transform lives—one individual, one family, one community at a time. Some REGISTRY Tampa Bay content may be sponsored, paid for, or promotional. Gasparilla on the Gulf: A Pirate Night with Heart

One of my favorite moments of this Gasparilla season was Saturday night’s Gasparilla on the Gulf gala at the Fenway Hotel, a festive evening supporting Random Acts of Flowers Tampa Bay. The pirate theme set a fun tone, but the heart of the night was the mission — delivering repurposed bouquets to patients in healthcare facilities across our community. My favorite part was watching the video that included messages from those who had received flowers, as well as their family members. It was so heartwarming to hear the joy in their voices and be reminded how a simple gesture of flowers can make such a big difference. It was a beautiful night that captured what I love most about our community: celebrating together while supporting a cause that brings real comfort and kindness to others. Clearwater Free Clinic’s 23rd Annual Martinis & Matisse was such a night to remember!

Clearwater Free Clinic’s 23rd Annual Martinis & Matisse was such a night to remember! This favorite community event always feels like a big reunion of friends — the perfect way to say goodbye to the holidays and welcome spring. I had extra incentive to be there this year because my friend Alicia Suarez was one of the signature artists. I’ve always loved her bright, happy artwork, and seeing her featured made the night even more special. Proud friend moment! The evening was a huge success, raising nearly $500,000 and netting a record-breaking $430,000+ for the Clearwater Free Clinic. Their mission is to provide quality medical care to those in our community who otherwise might go without — and this event is a beautiful reminder of how much good can happen when people come together with purpose. And how about this… even after retiring as CEO after 26 years, Jeannie Shapiro still chaired this year’s event. That kind of dedication, creativity, and heart is exactly what makes this event — and this organization — so incredible for our community. Take a look at the photos below to see all the fun we had… and start planning now because I can’t wait to see you there next year! Lucky me to be friends with more than one artist! This was beyond groovy, Kelly Nash! The title “Wish” so accurately desribes this image! Amazing work, Rachael Wood! Live Art is always so much fun to see! Cheers to CFC’s own CEO, Tony Degina, and my friend Alicia Suarez! Some REGISTRY Tampa Bay content may be sponsored, paid for, or promotional. Sponsored content is created by or for advertisers.
