For 15 years, the Straz Center has been gracing our Monday nights with a smartly curated series of performers who can be loosely classified under labels like “roots” or “Americana” — artists from around the country whose music taps into strains of acoustic folk, neofolk and alt country, with a style and substance that fit nicely into the intimate confines of the Center’s Jaeb Theater.
Tonight, Club Jaeb kicks off its new season in fine fashion with Gretchen Peters. A singer-songwriter who’s been compared to such luminaries as Bonnie Raitt, Nanci Griffith and Lucinda Williams, she brings empathy and a rich tone to songs like “Arguing with Ghosts,” a heart-rending meditation on aging. strazcenter.org.
