After I published my Weekend Top 10 last week, I remembered too late that I’d forgotten one big event that began its run on Thursday: that annual homage to the sweetest of fruits, the Florida Strawberry Festival in Plant City. It should have been on my list for the shortcake alone, but the big draw at the festival is, of course, the entertainment. So that means I didn’t get to sing the praises of Reba (whose concert yesterday had been long sold out, anyway), but as a former Philadelphian I cannot miss giving a nod to tonight’s headliner, Ms. Patti La Belle. The queen of vocal acrobatics, out-there haberdashery and sweet potato pie, Ms. Patti is one of Philly’s finest exports and an entertainer who never gives less than her all. And at $35 a ticket (on top of the $10 festival admission), tonight’s concert is a steal. 7:30 p.m., Florida Strawberry Festival, 303 BerryFest Place, Plant City.
