“EXPLORING THE LIFESTYLE AND GENEROSITY OF TAMPA BAY”

If you’re a theater fan — or if you just like the idea of wandering a picturesque college campus and pausing for a quick dose of free entertainment along the way — then you should definitely head to the USF St. Petersburg’s waterfront digs for Short & Sweet Theatre Week. It’s kind of a brilliant idea: assemble an assortment of short performance pieces by some of Tampa Bay’s most accomplished theater folks and pop them into various spaces, outdoors and in, amidst USF St. Pete’s scenic environs.

The fun starts tonight with a wondrous half hour of dance theater called Air-Earth-Fire-Water (two performances, 5:15-5:45 and 6:30-7 p.m., performed outdoors at Harborwalk). A-E-F-W, which has already made a splash at the Tampa Museum of Art and St. Pete’s Museum of Fine Arts, is a droll and thought-provoking mix of physics, dance and physical comedy.

Also this evening, the irrepressible improv team Hawk & Wayne will be doing their thing in It’s A Living!, a performance (5:30-6:30 p.m.) and improv workshop (6:30-7) at The Edge (in Coquina Hall Waterfront).

On Tuesday through Thursday evenings, look for equally intriguing free programs of short plays, storytelling, performance and cabaret by a whole heap of talented folks including Eugenie Bondurant, Matt Cowley, Bob Devin Jones, Bonnie Agan, Chris Crawford, Mimi Rice and many more. Go to usfsp.edu/arts-programs/theatreweek for a full schedule and a campus map.
