There’s always something of interest going on at the Morean Arts Center because there’s just so much to the Morean Arts Center. (That’s pronounced MORE-ee-un, for the uninitiated.) And three of its four locations — the Arts Center gallery, the Glass Studio, and the Chihuly Collection — are open Mondays and within easy walking distance of one another in downtown St. Pete.
On view at the main gallery right now (admission free!) is the third annual edition of the always-rewarding Fresh Squeezed show, a survey of emerging Florida artists. Across the street at the Chihuly Collection (admission $19.95) you can wander through an eye-opening array of colorful works by the famed glass artist Dale Chihuly. A short walk away (behind the Arts Center gallery) is the Glass Studio (admission free with Chihuly ticket), where hourly glass-blowing demonstrations take place throughout the day. Along the way, stop by the Banyan Cafe (next to the main gallery on Central) for excellent coffee, sandwiches and other goodies.
And one more thing: You might sense some hustle and bustle about the Morean today, because it’s the first day of summer sessions in the center’s wide array of classes for all ages, and the first day of Summer Art Camp for ages 4-16.
