A political satire entitled Drilled! The Musical has gotta be about oil, right? Wrong. Dentistry. Oh, and the American healthcare system. And political fanatics, on both the right and the left. And the White House, and the 1 percent — and oh, probably, lots more irresistible targets. If Will Leavengood’s prior achievements are any indication — like Webb’s City, his delightful musical (written with Lee Ahlin) about the legendary St. Pete entrepreneur Doc Webb — Drilled! The Musical should be lots of fun. It opens tonight, July 18, at 8 p.m., and continues Friday, July 19, at 6 and 9 p.m. and Sunday, July 21, at 3. All performances will take place in the intimate environs of the Palladium’s Side Door Cabaret.
With book and lyrics by Leavengood and music by Constantine Grame, Drilled! tells the tale of Larry the Laborer, a blue-collar celebrity who’s fallen on hard times and finds himself engulfed in a comic nightmare when he ventures into the local branch of the only dental conglomerate that will accept his lousy insurance. Chris Loving, Bailee McQueen and Mario Gonzalez co-star, with choreography by Peyton Lustig.
