Know any sailors? In particular, any women who sail? Or how about anyone who would love an inspirational documentary about succeeding against all odds? Maiden, at Tampa Theatre tonight through Aug. 22, fills the bill and then some. The true story of the all-female crew that competed in 1989 in the Whitbread Round the World open-ocean yacht race, Maiden is billed as having “all the elements of an epic adventure tale — 50-foot waves, life and death drama, near-mutiny, thrilling victory.” Watch the trailer below or listen to crew members talk about the race on NPR’s Fresh Air, and you’ll understand why this doc is a must-see. In fact, it may be the perfect summertime movie — and a thrilling way to spend a Tuesday night. Tues. 8/13, 7:30 p.m., Tampa Theatre, 711 N. Franklin St., Tampa.
