Seems like local waters are churning up marina news every other week in these parts. The municipal marinas in both Clearwater and St. Pete announced this spring that they’re looking into major upgrades. Meanwhile, there have been some stellar developments on the private front. Following its own $25 million dollar renovation, Maximo Marina is now the shining star of St. Pete’s Skyway Marina District, with new slips for larger boats, fresh landscaping and a waterfront restaurant, The Getaway (an outpost of the popular hangout on Gandy). In Tampa’s burgeoning Westshore Marina district, the Marina Pointe community (with its $1 million-plus condos, many already sold) will be centered around a yacht basin with a full-service marina. And if you’d prefer just to gaze at big boats rather than own one, the prettiest marina view around — because it looks down upon the very pretty Renaissance Vinoy Resort Marina — is from the terrace at Paul’s Landing, the resort’s upscale casual restaurant. (And if you do need to dock your yacht before lunch, the Vinoy’s marina features 74 concrete boat slips and accommodates vessels of up to 130 feet.)
