Matt Fitzpatrick birdied the 72nd hole to win the 2026 Valspar Championship by one stroke over David Lipsky. Fitzpatrick earned his third PGA Tour victory in his 183rd career start, and $1,638,000.
He lost The Players Championship last week on the final hole to Cameron Young but redeemed himself Sunday with grit and a hot putter.
Fitzpatrick played bogey free for his last 36 holes and became the third winner of the Valspar Championship to record a bogey-free final round since Luke Donald (2012) and Kevin Streelman (2013).
The leader board was stacked at the top late in the afternoon as Matt Fitzpatrick (England) battled David Lipsky, Jordan Smith (England), Xander Schauffele, and Marco Penge (England) for the title. Penge has tremendous power and is a force to watch moving forward.
Remarkably, Brandt Snedeker, at 45 years of age, was vying for the lead when his putter left him and he faded from contention.
The 54-hole leader Sungjae Im, who tied for fourth, carded a 3-over 74 to finish three strokes back of Fitzpatrick. No player who has held or shared the 54-hole lead during the four Florida Swing tournaments this season has gone on to win.
The Valspar tournament allows players to get creative with the name on their caddie bibs. While Alejandro Tosti grabbed headlines with “Need a wife,” Fitzpatrick went with “Froggatt grit,” which he explained was a nickname his friends had given him for his hard-nosed grit.
“Any win is fantastic. To me, just getting over the line is always difficult. It’s so hard to win out here”, Fitzpatrick said. “To win this week is a big steppingstone moving forward.”
The PGA Tour heads to Texas this week for a Texas two-step. The Texas Children’s Houston Open March 26-29 then the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio April 2 – 12.
The Masters is April 9 – 12. The latest 2026 Masters odds via FanDuel Sportsbook list Scheffler as the +480 favorite (risk $100 to win $480) with McIlroy at +950 and Ludvig Aberg at +1100. Other contenders include Bryson DeChambeau (+1600), as he seeks his first Augusta win, Rahm (+1300) and Xander Schauffele (+1600). Tiger Woods, who hasn’t ruled himself out of competing, is a +25000 Masters longshot.
