Restaurant Update Tampa: Who's open for dine-in? Takeout? Both?

The latest phase in Florida’s COVID-19 guidelines, which kicked in on Mon. May 18, allows restaurants to open at 50% capacity for dine-in customers. Some places are doing so, some are staying at 25%, and some have stuck to take-out only. We began tracking the changing landscape with our Top 10 Takeout guides (consult our earlier list here). Here’s the latest on restaurants in Tampa; see our previous list for St. Pete; and stay tuned for updates from elsewhere in Tampa Bay.

Armature Works. Now open from 8 p.m.-10 p.m. Sun.-Wed. and 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Thurs.-Sat. for outdoor dining, curbside take-out, and reduced capacity indoor dining. Order online by going to the #AWTo-Go highlights in their Instagram story.

Ava. Now open for dining inside and outside on the patio, which is good news for fans of their rustically delicious Italian food and artisanal cocktails. Make reservations via Open Table or call 813-512-3030.

The Barterhouse. “2020 zigged, so we zagged,” explained Barterhouse on its Facebook page when the hot new Ybor City eatery morphed into a “grocery store,” stocked with restaurant-quality foods to prepare at home. But now it’s morphing back into a restaurant again, with limited-seating “pop-up” menus on the weekends and full reopening likely by the second or third week of June.  Takeout still available, too. Bella’s Italian Cafe. Now open on a first-come, first-served basis with extended patio seating to meet the 6-foot social distancing guidelines; dining room also open at a strict 25% capacity. On-premises dining will be available from 3–10 p.m. Curbside pickup and mobile delivery will continue to be available from 3–9:30 p.m. 813-254-3355.

Bern’s Steak House. Bern’s has reopened and they’re taking reservations through June 30! The dessert room, tours of the kitchen and wine cellar, and accommodations for groups larger than ten are currently unavailable. But it’s great to have Tampa’s most storied restaurant back in action. Reserve online or call 813-251-2421. Takeout is still available.

Bulla Gastrobar. Have a taste for tapas? All locations of this acclaimed Spanish restaurant chain, including the South Tampa location, are open for dine-in with socially distanced limited seating as mandated. Make-at-home paella meal kits, too! For to-go meals, order online here.

Capital Grille. The popular steakhouse at International Plaza is now open for dine-in at 50% capacity, and they’re still offering curbside takeout and Butcher Shoppe hand-carved steaks for cooking at home. 813-830-9433.

Carmine’s. Deviled crab, Cubans, baked ziti and all the other Cuban/Italian favorites are available for dine-in now (50% cap) at this Ybor City institution. To-go, too. Call 813-248-3834.

Élevage  Élevage, the Epicurean Hotel’s signature restaurant, has reopened for dine-in (Tues.-Sat. from 3-9 p.m. and Sunday brunch from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.), with options including the dining room, patios and the EDGE Rooftop Bar — which is now a restaurant. They’re still offering carryout, too, with curbside pickup Wed.-Sun. 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Review the menu online here to make reservations or place a pick-up order.

Haven. SoHo’s culinary haven is back to regular dine-in hours, 5-9 p.m. Mon.-Wed. and Thurs.-Sat. 5-10 p.m.  (closed Sunday). The bartop’s closed, but the restaurant’s legendary Happy Hour will still be available at tables from 5-7 p.m. every day. Meat Market. The Hyde Park Village steakhouse has reopened for lunch and dinner. Precautions include temperature checkpoints for all guests entering the restaurant; a designated guest-counter to ensure occupancy compliance; a designated location for pick-up of take-out orders; and floor demarcation to ensure adherence to six-foot social distancing rules. Mise en Place. Tampa’s gourmet groundbreaker Mise en Place is now open for dine-in as well as takeout, so you can check out their recent remodel in person not just via Facebook photos. Call 813-254-5373 for reservations or go to

Oak & Ola. Anne Kearney’s fine-dining destination at the Armature Works has reopened with extended outdoor seating and indoor dining as well. Reservations can be made via Yelp or by calling 813-773-1901. Hours: Lunch, Thurs.-Sun., 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; Dinner, Thurs. & Sun., 5-9 p.m.; Fri.-Sat., 5-10 p.m.

On Swann. Chris Ponte’s Hyde Park Village hot spot has re-opened for dine-in at 50% capacity; reservations are highly recommended. Reserve via Yelp or call 813-251-0110. Curbside pickup will continue, too; order online here.

Rooster & the Till.  Deservedly lauded both for culinary innovations and business savvy, Ferrell Alvarez and Ty Rodriguez have reopened their Seminole Heights destination restaurant for dine-in with reservations, walk-ins, outside seating and curbside every day (except for Sunday) 5-10 p.m. 813-374-8940.

Steelbach. Armature Works’s stellar steakhouse has reopened for dine-in. For reservations, call 813-693-5478 or visit the website.

Whiskey Cake. The International Plaza favorite has reopened for dine-in service at 25% capacity, reservations only, following all the necessary precautions and then some: they even have a QR Code menu for you to access straight from your phone as you sit down.
