Scottie Scheffler captured The American Express title with a four-shot victory and 27- under performance, earning $1.66 million and 500 FedExCup points. The victory marks Scheffler’s 20th Tour win and his first of the 2026 season.
Scheffler’s 20th PGA Tour win on Sunday made the 29-year-old the third fastest to reach 20 wins. His 20th win grants him a lifetime exemption on the PGA Tour. Scheffler turned pro in 2018 and joined the PGA Tour in 2020- he reached win number 20 in his 151st start.
That trails only Jack Nicklaus who needed 127 starts, while Tiger Woods is the only golfer to win 20 times on the PGA Tour with less than 100 starts.
World Number 1, Scheffler, never just shows up to play a tournament. He is always prepared to compete both physically and mentally. His drives during the tournament were often wayward, but he made up for that by displaying an excellent short game, getting up and down from almost everywhere on the course.
Scottie said after the tournament that he had spent a lot of time in the off season working on his wedge play. “The goal is to get the wedge shots around the green close to the hole. It is a lot easier to make puts from 3 feet than 10 feet and when you are closer to the hole it takes a lot of stress off your game.”
I’m heading to the range to work on my chipping with the goal to get the ball closer to the hole in 2026. Thanks for the advice, Scottie!
The buzz of the tournament was Blades Brown. He looked well beyond his 18 years under increasing attention on Saturday. He shot 60 on Friday after missing a putt for 59-that got everyone’s attention. He continued his stellar play on Saturday when he finished with three straight birdies that left him tied with Scottie Scheffler.
The Nashville prodigy has been a name to know in golf for a few years. At 16, he broke Bobby Jones’ 103-year-old record as the youngest stroke play medalist in U.S. Amateur history. He made his PGA Tour debut just before his 17th birthday and turned pro last year.
Brown was playing his seventh consecutive round after arriving from a Korn Ferry Tour event in the Bahamas. He did not make the top 10 in the American Express Tournament this week. He did not qualify to play The Farmers PGA event this week at Torrey Pines.
Brown finished tied for 18th place and earned $93,318.
Keep an eye on Blades Brown in 2026. The 18-year-old can play and compete. It’s going to be an exciting year on the PGA Tour.
