Take Ten: 10 Great Places for Takeout in St. Pete Beach & Pass-A-Grille

UPDATE: With the recent change in state COVID-19 guidelines for restaurants, many of the establishments listed below have begun offering limited dine-in as well as takeout. Read the updated list here.

You may not be able to get onto the beach [although restrictions have recently been lifted], but you can drive to Pass-A-Grille and St. Pete Beach and get near it — and pick up some great carryout deals from area restaurants without even taking off your mask.

The Brass Monkey. Never fear, Monkey Balls are still here! The Brass Monkey’s legendary balls of Maryland lump crab (broiled and served with homemade remoulade) are available for takeout along with all the other seafood dishes, steaks, sandwiches, apps and more on the restaurant’s regular menu. Call to order at 727-367-7620 Monday-Sunday from noon-8 p.m.

The Dewey at Berkeley Beach Club. Yummy-sounding takes on comfort food from chef Tony Bruno and Mise en Place mastermind Marty Blitz — including treats like tamarind orange chipotle glazed wings, Cobb salad with BBQ pork shoulder, seared salmon with gochujang yuzu vinaigrette (wine and beer by the bottle, too) — available for pickup or delivery from 3-9 p.m. Tues.-Sat. and 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday. Order online or call 727-228-1000.

The Drunken Clam. “KEEP CALM…..AND CLAM ON!!!” is the message on this lively restaurant’s Facebook page, which sounds like excellent advice. They’re doing daily “to-go” hours from 4 to 8 p.m., with specials like 20 of their award-winning wings for $11.95 (call in your order at least 30-40 minutes before pick-up) and $3 ‘Ritas (which can’t be consumed on premises; as they mention on their page, “To-Go means… you gotta go to drink it”). For pick-up, call 727-360-1800 and drive to the side entrance; your server will take your payment and bring you the order. Delivery available, too, via GrubHub, UberEats and Free Beach Ride.

Gigi’s Italian Restaurant. Doing takeout and very busy judging by the sound of things over the phone. Hours are 4-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday and Sunday. Call in your order at 727-363-3344.

Larry’s Ice Cream & Gelato. Their name should say “…. & More” because, in addition to homemade ice cream, freshly made waffle cones (mmmmm….the aroma!), shakes, gelato and frozen yogurt, they serve kosher beef hot dogs, cheeseburgers, sandwiches, pizza, beer and wine — all to go. Pints and quarts of ice cream, too. Hours are Noon-10 p.m. Call 727-360-4259 for takeout and curbside delivery. Also delivering via Uber Eats, Bitesquad and Door Dash.

Hurricane Seafood Restaurant. The famous rooftop is closed for now, but you can order takeout from the Rooftop and South Deck menus, with Hurricane favorites like grouper nuggets and the South Deck DBL Burger. To-go cocktails, too, with food purchase and proper I.D. Also, the Hurricane is licensed to sell bottles of liquor and wine and six-packs of beer, no food purchase required. Call 727-360-9558 or order online.

Snapper’s Sea Grill. You can’t miss the big “SNAPPER’S CURB SIDE DRIVE THRU” banner on Gulf Boulevard, so take that as a reminder to pick up some tasty dishes like coconut-crusted mahi mahi or blue crab stuffed portobellos. Order and pay directly online or call ahead at 727-367-3550 from 4-8:30 p.m. daily (phone orders taken till 9). There’s even a Curb Side Early Bird menu from 4-5 p.m. and daily specials.

Sola Bistro & Wine Bar. This critically acclaimed bistro is doing takeout on an occasional basis, so be sure to check their Facebook page for updates. Recent dishes included figs and chorizo, grouper and ribeye. They sell wine by the bottle, 6- or 12-pack, too.

The Wharf. Order ahead at 727-367-9469 from 11 a.m.-8 p.m., then pull up in your car or sail up in your boat and the restaurant will call you when your order is ready. Though a few items like soft shell crabs and lobster rolls are not being offered at the moment, the rest of the extensive menu is available, including “Quarantine Specials” (a recent list included a pound of peel-and-eat shrimp for $11.99 and the Burger in Paradise for $7.95).  Cocktails to go, too, with your food orders.
