It may be the perfect movie for Father’s Day season: A Voice That Carries, a documentary about “the power of fathers to help their daughters change the world,” premiering Thurs. June 3 at Tampa Theatre.

dRTB Publisher Tom duPont knows something about daughters (he has three), so he’s got lots of experience to draw upon for his Tampa Bay Talks interview with the filmmaker, Brett Culp, a sixth-generation Tampanian who finds ways for all of his films to benefit local charities wherever they’re screened.

Culp has sons, not daughters, but his film carries important messages for any parent about helping children focus on inner strength and beauty in a culture obsessed with outward appearance.

Fun fact: Culp began his filmmaking career as a wedding videographer, and one of the weddings he filmed was Molly duPont Schaffer’s. (He still remembers Tom’s toast).

A Voice That Carries, Tampa Theatre, Thurs. June 3, 7:30 p.m. A Q&A with Brett Culp follows the screening. View the trailer below.
