Penelope: An Epic New Musical
Straz Center, Shimberg Playhouse, Tampa

PENELOPE CHILVERS Wilderness Waxed Cotton Tote in Navy Blue | Collen ...

A blockbuster summer movie is a happy timing coincidence, but if you had to choose – run, don’t walk, to the already 60% sold-out Shimberg theatre. Penelope has been waiting … and waiting … and waiting for her husband, Odysseus, to return from a decade-long war. Given the rest of the soldiers came home years ago — forgive her, but she’s going to need a drink while she tells you about it.
With a beautiful folk-inflected pop score backed by an onstage band of strings, piano, and drums, Penelope confides in us about her loneliness, her son’s disappearance, her suitors, her gods, her faith in her marriage — and ultimately, the faith that she must have in herself. So go ahead and grab a drink too and listen to this ancient tale made new:
On a personal note, having watched the phenomenal talent of Colleen Cherry bloom since she befriended my very own theater nerd, Jordan, in middle school, it’s a bit difficult to maintain “journalistic impartiality” as I gush with pride for her. I’ll just say, see you opening night (with bells on), and get your tickets for the run NOW.  THREE WEEKS ONLY!

Friday, August 21st – Sunday, September 6th

Preseason Home Game: Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs, Kansas City Chiefs
Raymond James Stadium, Tampa

Buccaneers decide on their new offensive coordinator

School has begun and, despite the thermometer, Fall is on the way – which means FOOTBALL!! I do love the NFL and this season promises to be pretty “interesting,” to say the least. Follow the Bucs ’26 season from the beginning by coming out to RayJay for the first home pre-season game. It’s so much more fun in person than on TV, and that’s a fact, so come on down and let the season begin!  In the words of the legendary Gene Deckerhoff – “Touchdown Tampa Bay!!”
