Opening: The Scarlett Letter
American Stage, DTSP

scarl.webp

In this reimagined exploration of “original sin,” Hester Prynne navigates a society that frowns upon women who dare to think, love, or rebel. Can she carve her own path and raise her daughter as a “fallen woman” in the Massachusetts Bay colony? Shame and secrets intertwine as Hester, her guilt-ridden lover, and vengeful husband confront the big question: What sins are truly “unforgivable”? In this reimagining of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s seminal work, discover how violence, superstition, and hard truths shape the America we know today. Look for former WT10 columnist, David Warner, making his American Stage Debut! Break legs all!

Bill Leavengood writes hilarious plays about familiar local lure and so much more, and I’m here for it! From the Writer/Director of Webb’s City, comes this rollicking song and dance political satire that joyfully skewers right and left-wing fanatics, the health care system, the Executive Office, the 1% and, of course, dentists! With Music & Musical Direction by Constantine Grame and Book, Lyrics and Direction by Bill Leavengood, DRILLED! The Final Term? tells the tale of Larry the Laborer, a blue-collar celebrity and conservative icon who helped his party win the White House.

Opening: Truth Will Out
TheatreFor, Clearwater

“Come see Shakespeare unleashed!” Nobody produces fascinating new takes on Shakespeare like Dee O’Brien. If you know, you know. So, how about Improv on Stratford on Avon? Sounds hilarious.  Featuring the few, the proud, and the certifiably insane, this production explores truth, appearance, and reality in staged scenes from of the Bard’s most beloved plays – The Tamong of the Shrew, Macbeth, King Lear, and A Midsommer Night’s Dream. And it’s all UNREHEARSED and performed without fear. These are some of my favorite productions at TheatreFor, so check it out.
