It’s another super weekend curated just for you – culture, fun festivals, new theater, great music, comedy and lots of free events. Take a trolley ride to tour St. Pete’s murals or go to the Pride kick-off party. No one is ever bored on a Tampa Bay weekend!
New Theater Thursday
Fat Ham
American Stage, DTSP
Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” gets a modern, comedic makeover, complete with a new setting at a backyard barbecue. Hamlet is now Juicy, who’s dealing with the aftermath of his dad’s untimely death. But here’s the twist: Juicy’s not buying the official story of how his old man met his end. Cue the drama, the intrigue, and the quest for truth. He’s not alone in this whirlwind of emotions. His mom, Tedra, is torn between her loyalty to her late husband and her newfound thing with his brother, Rev. Then there’s Opal, our Ophelia, who’s not your typical damsel in distress—she’s a force to be reckoned with. With dynamic characters, thought-provoking themes, and gripping storytelling, “Fat Ham” is more than just a retelling—it’s a whole new experience that’ll leave you seeing “Hamlet” in a new light.
