Opening Night – Lizzie: The Musical

Back by popular. demand, Lizzie: The Musical tells the Victorian era story of Lizzie Borden, fabled “40 whacks” axe murderess of her stern father and evil stepmother. (She was acquitted, BTW.) It’s told in a Tommy-style rock musical format that delivers the belts big time. The all-female cast, featuring Colleen Cherry reprising her role as Lizzie and music direction by Jeremy Douglass. brings down the house on the nightly, so get your tickets now, because they’re selling out fast.

The Prom

The USF troupe brings us another fun show. Oh, the lengths washed up, yet still remarkably egotistical, Broadway stars will go to to drum up a little publicity – Such is the premise of the Prom. It’s a crazy high school coming of age comedy where love is love, but in too many instances, only if you fight for it. Support these talented young actors and enjoy great theater.

There’s no better day of exploring for free than at Pinewwod – Home to the Florida Botanical Gardens, Heritage Village, and the Gallery at Creative Pinellas. Third Saturdays have special events at each venue throughout the day. I’m mentioning it this week because it is the final weekend of the amazing Emerging Artist’s Exhibit at the Gallery at Creative Pinellas. See beautiful work from some truly talented Artists on the rise. The gallery is opened from noon to five. Don’t miss it.

SharkCon is a full-fledged, 2-day extravaganza of all things undersea. There numerous FREE engaging activities for you and the kids to sink your teeth into, but that’s just where the fun-frenzy begins. There are speakers from Shark Week, National Geographic, and Animal Planet. There are over one hundred vendors of shark and ocean related merchandise, including, but not limited to jewelry, art, clothing, & collectibles. Learn how you can enjoy the ocean even more with indoors scuba diving with professionals as well as other water sports. Celebs include cast of Jaws 3-D (including a screening), and Lea Thompson of Back to the Future fame.

I scream, you scream….we all know the rest. Ice cream is just that good, though, isn’t it? Definitely worth at least a squeal. It’s National Ice Cream Day, so pack up the kids and head down to the Pier for a full day of beating the summer heat with the coolest, sweetest, creamiest treat there is. There will be over 25 vendors offering every conceivable version of our favorite dessert. there will also be live music all day and lots of family friendly activities.
