Hillsborough Community College, Ybor City
A large cohort of international, national, regional, and local authors and publishers of adult and children’s books will converge on Ybor City (in-person and virtually) for several days of activities including workshops, meeting prospective publishers, readings, children’s and youth activities, books sales, performances, and more. There will be a full schedule of events and readings. Get your lit on! Admission is FREE.

Jesus Christ Superstar
The Straz Center-Morsani Hall, Tampa
A mesmerizing new production of the iconic JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR returns to the stage. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, this musical phenomenon is the winner of the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival. With lyrics and music by Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony winners Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, this production pays tribute to the historic 1971 Billboard Album of the Year with a legendary score that includes “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” “Gethsemane” and “Superstar.”

One actor, one act, thirty two characters. Alan Mohney, Jr. pulls off this herculean comic lift with great skill. The scene is a NYC hotspot restaurant and Sam Callahan is tasked with managing the reservation line filled with scheming socialites, name-dropping wannabes, fickle celebs, and power hungry bosses. Sam’s got dreams (and complications) of his own though. See what happens in this fast paced, hilarious romp. Mohney’s wife and partner, actor, Debbie Yones, directs.

Steve Martin pens this comedic farce centered around a scandalous society miscue involving an eager to please young bride, her snooty and demanding husband, and a hilarious wardrobe malfunction involving what else? Underpants. Martin takes a comedic look at sudden fame and the crazy things we do for love. Dine on a delicious meal as you enjoy wonderful live theater. It’s a treat.

Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg

I’ve always loved the bee swarming sound of Indy cars in downtown. The Firestone Grand Prix is certainly a big deal for our community. Join in the excitement with many different events, activities, and heats. The 1.8-mile, 14-turn (5 lefts, 9 rights) circuit incorporates streets of downtown St. Petersburg and a section of runway of Albert Whitted Airport. After the long frontstretch, there’s a tight right-hander into Turn 1 and then a quick left-hand turn. Plenty of drivers have gotten into trouble in these two turns over the years. There are two other long straights with heavy braking zones that afford opportunities to overtake.

The 59th Annual Minaret Mixer & Chiselers Market
Historic Plant Hall, UT, Tampa
Weekend long events to support preservation, the mixer is Friday night and a day-long market takes place on Saturday. Admission is free for the Saturday Market. “Savvy shoppers come to get first dibs while enjoying hors d’oeuvres, beer, wine and champagne.” said Minaret Mixer chairwomen Meg Fernandez and Cathy Sanchez. “It’s a win-win, a lovely party, awesome silent auction, fun shopping, all while supporting critical preservation.”

Tampa Bay Downs Festival Day/ 44th Annual Tampa Bay Derby
Tampa Bay Downs, Tampa
It’s the biggest racing day of the year here in Tampa Bay – $1 million in stakes purses will be awarded, including the running of Triple Crown candidates in the Tampa Bay Derby and several other high stakes races. It will make for a great day at the track, as well something different and interesting to do. Me, I just love the horses.
