1. Thursday: The Doo Wop Project at the Mahaffey

2. Friday art openings: Carol Dameron at the Octagon Art Center

A solo retrospective covering a span of 25 years, with 50 works drawing on different genres. Allegory dominates the exhibit, which also features portraiture, still life and collage. 3. Sponge Exchange and FloodZone at the USF Contemporary Art Museum

4. Griff Davis and Langston Hughes, Letters and Photographs 1947-1967: A Global Friendship at the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts

A selection from the archives of 62 never-before-seen photographs and material reflecting the decades-long friendship between the photographer, journalist and Senior Foreign Service Officer Griffith J. Davis and the renowned poet Langston Hughes. Through 4/19,  fmopa.org

5. Friday: Elona K And The Wegmanns: A Musical World Tour at The Studio@620

Award-winning Russian singer Elona Krasavseva and the Wegmanns (Nina on accordion, Robert on contrabass) are joined by dancer Svetlana Datseva in a program of North American, Latin American, British, French, Italian, Greek, Spanish and Russian music and dances. 7 p.m., studio620.org.

6. Friday-Sunday: The Florida Orchestra: Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3

Art and ballet take center stage in a concert inspired by the theater featuring images from the Museum of Fine Arts’ new “Art of the Stage” exhibit, original paintings by TFO’s Visual Artist-in-Residence Geff Strik, dancers from the Tampa City Ballet, and vocalists. 10. Opening Saturday: Marie and Rosetta at freeFall

A play with music by George Brant, Marie and Rosetta looks at the relationship between influential gospel singer Sister Rosetta Thorpe, the so-called “Godmother of Rock ’n’ Roll,” and her protégée Marie Knight, on the eve of the tour that would make them one of the most important duos in American popular music. 1/18-2/16, 6099 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, freefalltheatre.com

11. Opening Sunday: Miniature Art Show at Dunedin Fine Art Center

Artworks measuring only inches in size are the stars of the Miniature Art Society of Florida’s Annual Competition, on display at the Dunedin Fine Art Center. Over 800 works of art will be on display in this 45th annual exhibit, including the society’s permanent collection of more than 100 miniatures. Starting Monday, January 20 through the end of the show, artists from England, Canada and the U.S., including Florida, will be on hand to demonstrate their techniquesAlso at DFAC through Feb. 16: “Monochromatic Minis,” a community art show for which entrants were invited to submit small artworks in shades of a single color. 1/19-2/9, dfac.org.

12. Closing Sunday: A Shayna Maidel at Innovocative Theatre

A survivor of World War II is reunited with her father and sister in America in a hopeful story about a Jewish family finding their way back to each other. Innovocative performs at the Channel District home of Stageworks Theatre in Tampa. innovocativetheatre.org.
