Gary! Gary! Gary! The crowd around the 18th and final hole of the 2026 Texas Children’s Open chanted in celebration as Gary Woodland won on Sunday. Gary cried, we all cried.
It was a testament to resilience and determination. Woodland revealed recently he has dealt with PTSD since undergoing brain surgery in September 2023, that admission lifted “a weight” off Woodland, who capitalized with his fifth PGA Tour win. Woodland earned $1,782,000 and an exemption into the 2026 Masters tournament. This was his first win since the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.
Woodland said “anyone who is struggling, don’t give up. Keep fighting. Today was a good day.” He added that he is not fighting this battle alone. He thanked his family and his team.
He wore shoes that were designed by a patient at Texas Children’s Hospital this week with the word “courage” on the shoes.

Gary Woodland is an inspiration to all of us. To share burdens and seek help and support, not only in your golf game but in life. Are you listening, Tiger?
