As Megan Padilla notes in her story for the March/April issue of duPont Registry Tampa Bay, Sarasota is a trove of Mid-Century Modern homes designed by architects who were leaders in the movement known as the Sarasota School of Architecture. But if you want to tour these remarkable homes, you need to make reservations in advance.
Coming up this Saturday: a tour of the Paul Rudolph/Ralph Twitchell-designed Healy Guest House, also known as the Cocoon House — which, with its glass walls, unusually shaped roof and striking use of a bayou-front site, was one of the most heralded architectural achievements of the mid-20th century.
At this writing, there were only 13 spaces left for the tour, which is given bi-monthly, so get in there fast if you want to see it this weekend.
