Editor’s Note: For the 2021 edition of duPont Registry Tampa Bay’s Health & Happiness Issue, we asked an assortment of funny people “What makes you laugh?” Given the question, there was no way we could proceed without hearing from the man who has made so many other people laugh — Matthew McGee, the “comic genius” known for performances at freeFall, American Stage, Stageworks and more, and as half of the immortal “mother-son” duo Scott & Patti.

I feel like I laugh all the time, as I try not to take life too seriously. When asked this question, I often have a hard time pinpointing what tickles me. Everything does! I think it’s particularly difficult to be funny in entertainment these days. Most of the shows I binge right now are dramas or horror anthologies. Oh, and I love that Baby Yoda!

I get much of my comedy fix on social media. Not Facebook! Facebook just isn’t funny. Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok are my favorites. Leslie Jones (@Lesdoggg) live tweeting some of my favorite television shows and films makes me howl. She’s a gem! I’ve also watched Julian Burzynski (@juliancookies) become a star on Instagram and TikTok during this pandemic. His reenactments of famous scenes from films, TV shows and reality television are priceless and so expertly performed. Drag legend Trixie Mattel is a scream on YouTube! Subscribe! Memes also make me giggle. People make them so quickly now about all sorts of subjects. Is anything sacred? Not when it comes to memes. I share many of my favorites on my IG account: @thematthewmcgee! I’m also on Twitter: @thematthewmcgee as well.

I don’t have a TikTok account as I’m too old to figure it out. You kids! Get off my lawn!!!
