“EXPLORING THE LIFESTYLE AND GENEROSITY OF TAMPA BAY”

Follow Us

I’m postponing my Weekend Top 10 till tomorrow because everything I was going to talk about is happening from Friday to Sunday, except for one event — the Creative Pinellas Arts Annual, which takes place tonight at CP’s beautiful gallery and performance space in Largo.

I’ll reveal my bias right up front  — I’m Creative Pinellas’s board secretary, and this is CP’s annual fundraiser to benefit the agency’s programs in support of “a vibrant, integrated, collaborative and sustainable Pinellas County arts community.” But I sincerely don’t know how anyone who values the local arts scene could bear to miss this chance to experience the work of some of the county’s best artists, all in one place at one time and all of them CP grantees.

Every genre is represented: painting, sculpture, installation art, dance, theater, film, jazz, literature, even a giant balloon thing, from an amazing lineup of visual and performing artists, including:

Mark Aeling, Kristy Andersen, Nathan Beard, Elizabeth Barenis, Daniel Barojas, Saumitra Chandratreya, Michael Conway, Brandie Dziegiel, Roxanne Fay, Marquis Floyd, Donald Gialanella, Kevin Grass, Jason Hackenwerth, Shannon Leah Halversen, Reid Jenkins, Kenny Jensen, Charlotte Johnson, Tenea D. Johnson, Victoria Jorgensen, Yael Kelley, Steven Kenny, Paula Kramer, David Manson, Cora Marshall, Mickett/Stackhouse Studio, Rose Marie Prins, Babs Reingold, Ari Robinson, Tom Sivak, Jonathan Talit, and Catherine Woods.

Entertainment includes a dance performance choreographed by Paula Kramer featuring Charlotte Johnson; songs from the upcoming 2020 Sunshine City the Musical by Tom Sivak; a reading by Tenea D. Johnson from her novel Evolution; a theatrical monologue by Roxanne Fay; EMIT Jazz Trio featuring Dave Manson; and Marquis Floyd Collective Dance Performance featuring Kali Kali Dance Co., Blake High School and OMNI Presence.

The VIP preview starts at 6 p.m., affording an extra hour to peruse the art and enjoy early performances, plus Champagne and premium hors d’oeuvres. General admission begins at 7. Drinks will be available for purchase.

VIP preview at 6 p.m., $50. General admission, 7-10 p.m., $25. The Gallery at Creative Pinellas, 12211 Walsingham Rd., Largo (in the Pinewood Cultural Park, adjacent to the Florida Botanical Gardens and Heritage Village). creativepinellas.org.
