“EXPLORING THE LIFESTYLE AND GENEROSITY OF TAMPA BAY”

Follow Us

I had the great pleasure this week of talking with Melissa Mihok, founder and executive director of Heels to Heal, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping survivors of sexual assault and domestic abuse receive free counseling services. She founded the organization in 2009 when she saw a need for added resources to help survivors like herself.

A main funding source for Heels to Heal is its fashion show, which has been held six times in St. Pete, and this fall for the first time it’s taking place at the Renaissance Tampa International Plaza, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. Rina Patel, Heels to Heal board member and chair of the event, joined us on the dRTB Live broadcast to share details about the participating boutiques (she remembered them all without notes!) and other details. Sounds like a great event — and a wonderful way to join an important cause.

We also discussed…

• the source of the name Heels to Heal (it’s not exactly what you might think)

• the number of sexual assault cases in Tampa Bay last year (the stats are staggering, making the need for therapy that much more apparent)

• the many ways clients (women, men and children) can access the free counseling services

• the correct pronunciation of “Mihok” (sorry, Melissa — I swear I’ll get it right next time)

…and lots more. For tickets to the event and sponsorship information, go to heelstoheal.org or contact the organization at info@heelstoheal.org or 727-895-5885.
