For years, a group of women from Hyde Park United Methodist Church in Tampa have come together to make simple cotton dresses for children in need. The “Little Dresses” group sends them to communities in need in the Tampa Bay area, other parts of the country and internationally. Not long ago, they were close to making their 4,000th dress. Then came COVID-19 and a great need for protective masks, especially after the CDC guidelines to wear cloth face coverings. The ladies took fabric and elastic to their individual homes and have been making masks for the last few weeks. Each church member distributes the masks they make. Some have gone to nursing homes, hospitals, rehab centers, first responders, day care centers, animal shelters and restaurants, and many have gone to family, friends and church members. As of now, the group has made more than 1,000 masks and is making more.
